House Legislators Request Information on Unidentified Server Installed at OPM

The legislators expressed concern over cybersecurity and information security.

Some members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, led by Representatives Shontel Brown and Gerry Connolly, have requested information from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) regarding the installation of a “server of unknown nature and origin” at its facilities.

Servers are extremely powerful computers that hold a large amount of information, and the federal government maintains thousands of servers across the country to process important data. The legislators expressed concern over cybersecurity to protect private citizens’ data from foreign cyberattacks. The committee members also wanted to know why an unknown server with unknown capabilities had been installed at the OPM without their knowledge.

The letter also requests details on how the OPM was able to send a blast email offering buyouts to all federal employees. The OPM was not previously capable of this.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the members of the committee as they seek answers on the cybersecurity of the unknown server.
  • For the president and his administration officials to be led by God as they address issues in the federal government.
